Abstract

Introduction:Tooth powders are still widely used as dentifrice by the general population and have some distinguishing benefits. However, over-the-counter tooth powder preparations are found to be overly abrasive towards the tooth surface.Aim:To evaluate the surface characteristics of a novel tooth powder and compare it with a popular brand of tooth powder available in the market.Materials and Methods:Distinct parameters such as Color, odor, taste, appearance, solubility, flow, loss on drying, and pH were studied. SEM analysis was conducted to study the surface morphology. EDX analysis was conducted to analyze the chemical composition of the formulation. Results:EDX analysis results of the formulated tooth powder shows an elaborate predominance of Carbon, oxygen, and calcium, which indicated the presence of calcium carbonate. The SEM images of the formulated tooth powder also show calcium carbonate structures. Conclusion:A novel tooth powder was successfully formulated, and based on the characteristics analyzed, it was found to be superior in comparison to the tooth powder already available in the market.
