Abstract

The kinetics of two vinyl monomers acrylamide and methylacrylate by using redox system Mn3+-ketoglutaric acid at 20 degrees C has been investigated. The result indicates that the methylacrylate has higher monomer reactivity than acrylamide with respect to each of ketoglutaric acid, Mn(III) and H+. Negligible effect of ionic strength variations on reaction rate was observed. The rate of polymerization has a first order dependence on concentration of monomers was observed. A suitable mechanism with kinetic results has been proposed.
