INTRODUCTION: Tubercular laryngitis is a complication of pulmonary tuberculosis, but its presentation, diagnosis and management has undergone a drastic makeover after the advent of chemotherapy in the form of direct observed treatment short course. The present study is undertaken to find out the incidence of laryngeal tuberculosis in cases of pulmonary tuberculosis in patients admitted to Vinayaka Mission Medical College and Hospital as inpatient and outpatient of ENT Dept, VMMCH, Karaikal. AIMS AND OBJECTIVE: To assess the incidence and symptomatology of laryngeal tuberculosis in cases of pulmonary tuberculosis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This prospective study was conducted on 50 patients of pulmonary tuberculosis; each patient were subjected to detailed history and thorough ENT and head neck examination by visualization of vocal cords, possibly using indirect laryngoscopy or rigid laryngoscopy. RESULT: Tubercular laryngitis was diagnosed by direct laryngoscopy and diagnosis confirmed by histopathological study of biopsied tissue. CONCLUSION: Only 2 patients out of 50 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis showed involvement of larynx, the incidence being 4%.
