Abstract

This study compared the def index with Nyvad′s new caries diagnostic criteria for assessing cavitated, non-cavitated, and initial dental lesions in 249 school children. Mean deft was 2.48, while Nyvad′s criteria measured 3.18, showing statistically significant higher values. Nyvad′s criteria may more accurately diagnose early-stage dental caries. © 2013 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
