Abstract

This study evaluated variceal recurrence and rebleeding after sclerotherapy in 237 patients with portal hypertension. Rebleeding rates were low: 3.8% in cirrhotic patients, 3.2% in non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis, and none in extrahepatic portal vein obstruction. Clinical and laboratory parameters improved post-obliteration. Close monitoring resulted in low recurrence, and variceal reduction improved liver status in surviving cirrhotic patients. © 2012 Chinese Medical Association, Renji Hospital, and Wiley Publishing Asia Pty Ltd. © 2013 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
