Abstract

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is characterized by gynecological endocrine and metabolic abnormalities in women of reproductive age. It is associated with hyperandrogenism, insulin resistance, menstrual irregularities, and chronic anovulation. Conventional medical management often targets single symptoms and may have side effects or be ineffective. This review studies the use and mode of action of potential Ayurvedic drugs for PCOS, including Cinnamomum zeylanium, Gymnema sylvestre, Mentha spicata, Pergularia daemia, Saraka indica, Saw palmetto, Tribulus terrestris, and Withania somnifera. The review supports alternative Ayurvedic medication as a safe and effective management approach. © 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
