l-Cysteine cadmium chloride (LCC) crystals were synthesized using solution growth and characterized by single-crystal XRD, FTIR, UV–Vis-NIR spectroscopy, TG/DT analysis, and laser damage threshold tests. LCC crystals exhibited orthorhombic structure, optical band gap 3.77 eV, high thermal stability (392 °C), mechanical hardness, and efficient SHG response (2.32× KDP). Nonlinear optical properties including n2, β, and χ3 were evaluated. Optical limiting and dislocation growth mechanisms were analyzed. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
