Abstract

The photoinduced interaction of nile blue (NB) with antioxidant molecules was studied using fluorescence quenching and lifetime measurements. Ground state complex formation was observed. Bimolecular quenching rate constants vary based on substituent properties. Quenching follows a static mechanism. Thermodynamic and electronic properties influence antioxidant activity. BDE values indicate H* release. The mechanism is supported by spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and BDE calculations. © 2023 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
