Abstract
This study examines the performance of hybrid composites made from kenaf and pineapple fibers fabricated via compression molding, with graphene nanoparticles added at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 wt%. The addition of 0.5 wt% graphene improved tensile, flexural, and impact strength by 133.75%, 90.24%, and 25.67%, respectively. Microstructural analysis showed enhanced interfacial bonding due to graphene, forming resin-rich zones. Free vibrational analysis indicated higher natural frequencies, improving energy absorption. Water absorption decreased with graphene addition due to reduced voids and improved bonding, with 0.5 wt% graphene showing a contact angle of 80.8° compared to 70.7° for neat composites. These hybrid composites are promising for automotive interiors and construction applications such as wall panels and separators. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
