Abstract

This research focuses on transgender individuals in Tamil Nadu, whose gender identity differs from the one assigned at birth. The term "transgender" was first coined by activist Leslie Feinberg to encompass all forms of gender nonconformity. In Tamil Nadu, exclusion is a major challenge for young trans people, who often rely on deviant community members due to lack of awareness of government welfare programs. This study gathered data from 56 transgender individuals in Chennai to develop the smartphone application "Thirunar," designed to raise awareness and provide support.
